The People's Pantry is official, and has a location of it’s own. We are pretty excited. We’ve got Berry Farms Sunflower Oil, PS salsa, Jams and Jellies from Gleb Farm. You’ll find eggs again, and Cheese. Fingerlakes Granola, Sugarbush Maple Syrup, and Pembroke Honey grace the shelves. We continue to stock Dog Treats, and Verve, a healthy alternative to the energy drink market.

Whose Got the Cheese?

We do… the cooler isn’t brimming yet with cheeses, but we have a few samplings, and are placing an order for more Cheese. From Finger Lakes Dexter Creamery we have Kefir Cheese, From Finger Lakes farmstead Cheese we have Gouda, and from Lively Run we have Chevre Goats Milk. I think we had some cheddar and Swiss… who took the cheese? Come often as the supply changes weekly! And what goes great with cheese? You got it a burger! We have organic beef from Berry Farms! "The People" of The People's Market would like to thank those who remembered to shop local. We had a wonderful two days of sales and are very excited for our vendors! We initially thought we would be low on inventory after Black Friday weekend...but after a couple of great days of sales we still have LOTS of inventory!
It was exciting to see may people from the community stop in to shop and for some... see The People's Market for the first time. We had lots of positive feedback and people are just amazed at what they find when they walk through the doors of The People's Market. There is a lot of really great local talent and we are lucky to have them as vendors...after all it is people creating items for the people, but also people helping people... that is a big component of shopping local. Keeping our money in the area helps our community and strengthens us. Lets stay strong together in these tight financial times. Thank you again!

Welcome Schoolyard SugarBush Maple syrup from Moravia!

The People's Market is now carrying products from Schoolyard SugarBush...they will have several different sizes of decorative Maple Syrup bottles that are great for the holidays... as well as Pure Maple Cream, jugs of Maple Syrup, and Maple Candy.

Don Weeds (Dad) stopped is to drop off the items and we had a nice visit and talked of running a business in "the family". (They also own and run New Hope Mills Pancakes). We were encouraged when we met him that they too run a business with primarily their family members (and in our case vendors and family members) running it. It is hard at times but very rewarding! He told us funny stories of family members "hiding" the Maple Cream in the fridge so the other family members couldn't find it! I nicely asked him to get a little more out of the truck because I was going to buy one of them myself!
We are glad they will be offering their items here at The People's Market of Lansing. To learn more about Schoolyard Sugarbush go to their website at www.schoolyardsugarbush.org . She makes a wonderful smelling Havdalah soap it states on the package that "The Havdalah ceremony signals the end of Sabbat. A candle is lit, a cup of wine filled to overflowing and fragrant spices are passed for all to enjoy"...well this soap is fragrant and beautiful! Lesli has a "soothe-me citrus" goatsmilk & Honey and a "Marathoner's Relief" soap for the runner that needs a strong soap for a fter a good run (contains tea tree oil). Paul's Munson's family honors him and shares his creations with us!

Julia Munson and her family came to The People's Market (just the Saturday after Paul's service!) and brought a selection of Paul's handmade bowls and cutting boards. They shared with us the families wishes to have his items be sold...as he himself was so looking forward to doing. I was touched that so soon after his passing that they had the strength to bring his items to us. We are honored to be selling his handcrafted items...each one numbered, dated and signed with love. Stop in and check out his work...and you will see why I wouldn't let him leave the store without promising to bring us more of his precious items.

Rescheduled Photo walk...turns into FALL walk! Matthew Binkewicz, local photographer, will be leading the previously scheduled walk in Ludlowville on October 15th. Same arrangements as before: 9:15ish meet at The Market...travel to Ludlowville. The walk will last until approximately 11:00. Matthew will offer us tips on taking pictures of landscapes, a little history and hopefully a beautiful scenic walk to the falls. We will supply those enrolled with a bottle of water and a small bag of Granola from The Finger Lakes Granola company. There is a nominal $5 fee. We look forward to the walk. Sad Day at The Market!

It is with regret that we must inform you that we are temporarily discontinuing our sale of Tom Quinn's Grass-fed chickens. Tom is an incredible producer and we have lost (temporarily) one of our wonderful products. Tom is completely within his rights to produce and sell his chickens...and he does it well... and by the book...if you know Tom you know this to be true! The USDA has discontinued our ability to sell Tom's chickens until further investigation (into Tom and our ability to sell them at a consignment store). Today was a nice day at the Market. Local Debbie Teeter brought in her "Gardener's Lotion Bars"...and are you in for a treat! There is a bar on the counter and you can sample away...I do. I have already tried it and I am our best customer and I will be with this item as well....I love it. The lotion bar is made from beeswax and formed into a beautiful flower shaped beeswax bar! Once again...stop in and try it!

Yes, we have a new vendor at The Market. Malcolm Bancroft from King Ferry has brought some of his fine crafted wood art to The Market. He uses various pieces of wood... cut and shaped into "puzzle like" pieces to make three dimensional art work. Some of his pieces are free standing pieces that have an incredible look to them! He has used some stain in order to introduce more color into the pieces. You really have to stop in The Market to see these works of art in person!

Potential new vendor lost to us...

It was a sunny Saturday when Paul Munson and his family wandered into The People's Market. It was a special day. He came in and wandered about the store before mentioning that he noticed there were pottery bowls but no wooden bowls...that was my opening. "You make wooden bowls?" I couldn't resist asking. Then bagan a long conversation about his trade...or what I consider his "gift". He is a crafter of the most incredibly beautiful hand crafted wooden bowls/cutting boards that I have ever seen! That must have been the case because someone bought the bowl on Tuesday (We were closed Monday or I firmly believe it would have sold Monday!).
I firmly believe that our meeting was certainly devine intervention because according to the Ithaca Journal Paul passed away on Monday. The obituary mentioned everything that we had talked about in his 45 minute visit that day. I was moved and within minutes of his leaving photographed the bowls and planned to feature it in my next ad. The cutting board is no longer for sale....I am buying it.
That wasn't the best part of my visit. It was the part where he continued to refer to his wife (of 58 years) as his "bride"..."my bride will handle that" he said referring to ..."his bride". I was moved. We giggled about how she felt being called his bride. Before leaving I asked to take his picture for our vendor book with his wooden art...but we decided a picture working by his machinery would be better. I would see him soon when he brought in more of his work. It may not be...but there must be a plan. I have to believe because I met a pretty special man that day...and I knew it after a 45 minute visit. He reminds me of my dad who we lost in February...a person you meet and never forget. Yes, I am talking about the talents of a well known local knitter...Melanie Towner. She can often be found knitting in the stands of the Lansing football games, basketball games, pool, etc. and ALWAYS has needles in her hands! She has offered to make mittens for those interested in donning the Lanisng colors this fall. Melanie has also offered to donate $2.00 for each and ANY pair of adult mittens sold at the People's Market knit by her (Her items are tagged as "CLOWN"). They can be found in a wide array of colors. Limited Number of "Freedom Ranger" chickens available

Tom Quinn has made available to The People's Market a limited number of "Freedom Ranger" chickens. Their name is derived from the French word Label Range (Red Label) Chickens that have earned the highest ratings for flavor and texture. They are not as plump as the Cornish chickens, but have a definite flavor of their own! Sounds like a good opportunity to try a different type of chicken from Quinn's Irish Hill Farm!
He has also informed me that he will do his last processing of chickens in October and then that will be it for the year as the season for "grass fed" chickens will officially be over. Just one more sign of the inevitable fall and winter months awaiting us ahead! Better stock up your freezer....from our freezer!

Cocka doodle do...we have chicken for you!

Come one, come all...they are here! The fresh grass fed chickens have arrived...They were dropped off today and are in The People's Market freezer...they are so fresh they're not even frozen all the way through yet! We have a shipment of 10 and can call for more if need be. On Tuesday Quinn's Irish Hill Farm will be processing a group of Freedom Rangers. (we could arrange to get a few of those as well). They won't last long as the season is short.

Local Lansing books now on sale at The People's Market!

Louise Bement has brought us a nice selection of local Lansing books. The books have recorded the local history and are very interesting! A few of the books were written by her 4th grade classes in 1976, 1977, 1981, 1984. The various books are by Louise Bement, Nellie Tucker Minturn, Carol Kammen and Isabelle H. Parish as well as the Privy Revelations which is a combined group effort by The Outhouse Project.
Books are titled International Salt Memory Book, The Rock Salt Mine, Portland Point Memory Book, Cayuga Lake 1900-1982, It Happened in Lansing, Town of Lansing It's Beginning, More Bits and Pieces of Lansingville History, Place Names of Tompkins County, and my personal favorite Privy Revelations featuring the outhouses of Lansing!
Can't wait to read a few of these and learn more about the great place of Lansing NY!

New display for socks...right out of the barn!

The old display just didn't match the store so we removed it (and are hoping it will go to a new home soon!). We built a small wall of the store into a barn style display from rough cut lumber in the barn ...for one of our best selling items...our alpaca socks! They are the most incredible socks you will ever experience. Stop in for a FEEL! Feel the warmth, the cushony thickness and you will never go back to regular socks once the warm weather hits...although they come in many different weights for different types of weather. They are also worn for fitness buffs who want naturally moisture wicking socks and are designed with the different materials in different places in the sock for durability. Where's The Beef?

"Where's the beef?" people may ask....it will soon be at the People's Market of Lansing! Berry Farms produces organic beef and be bringing their beef to the People's Market beginning September 15th. The beef will be stored in the People's Pantry in the freezer. You will be able to come in and pick your beef from the freezer yourself. They have a well respected butcher who will be packaging the organic beef in clear packages so you can see what you are buying!
Berry Farms will be offering their pre-packaged organic beef but will also be offering to do specialized cuts should people be interested in a specific cut for that special occasion. Just let us know and we will make sure it happens! We are looking forward to adding organic beef to the People's Pantry on September 15th!

Going once, going twice...sold out!

Yes, we have sold out of Tom Quinn's broilers! We sold the last one today. His next "harvesting date"...I like this so much more than "slaughter"...although Tom uses human techniques it is what it is ;-) He will be harvesting his next batch of 50 birds on August 26th...so we will have more chickens after that point. Stay tuned I will post their arrival when he brings them in for sale at The People's Market!

We are pleased to say that Sjana and John Berry are the newest members of The Market and are anxious to start supplying the locals with their certified organic Sunflower oil. Sunflower oil is only one of the focuses of the farm they are also an organic crop and Beef farm. In approximately two weeks we will be carrying a fresh order of beef for our patrons. The Berry's are looking forward to being active members and using the market to meet your beef needs. A Picture Walk...workshop

Matthew Binkewicz of The People's Market has offered to run a workshop on August 20th with the focus being photography and the Ludlowville falls area. We will meet at The People's Market at 8:45, leave by 9 and take a walk through the eLudlowville falls area (We should return by around 11:00). He will tell us a little history about the area as well as give us a few tips on photographing your favorite spots. Matthew has beautiful prints of the Ludlowville Falls area in The People's Market and is gracious enough to share his knowledge and experience with us. Please call the Market (533-1012) to be put on the list for the walk. A 5$ fee will include the tour, photography tips, a bottle of water and a small snack bag of Kathy's Granola from the Finger Lakes Granola Co. which we sell here at the Market. A Laid back Day at the Market!

It has been a quiet but enjoyable day at the Market. I have had a few wanderers and they are a constant reminder to me that life is short and we need to take time to "wander". People are beginning to wander in more regularly. A sweet older woman was casually walking around the store when I overheard her talking to herself...she said "I like this store". It made me smile I must say! I think it was because it brought back memories of old times for her...handmade soaps, knit items, jam etc...It was so sweet.
As they left a man stopped to tell me he was taking some things to the dump..he had an old singer sewing machine and was wondering if we wanted it? I of course said sure. He went on his was. I set the old sewing machine out by the old washing machine...what next?

A friend recently gave me a sign that simply read "simplify". Maybe that's what we need to do...slow down and simplify.
I have been working the last three days for my son Tyler who is working at Empire Farm Days with a friend...at first it was with regret I would say...I HAVE to work. But I have enjoyed my days meeting new people, talking and even had a long conversation with a vendor of ours who knew my Grandparents, grew up around the corner and I just realized lives in the same condo right NEXT to my Uncle. What a small world. We forget this when we run from place to place with our busy lives...with no time to connect.
That is what our hope and enjoyment is from the People's Market. Meeting people, bringing people together... Another man stopped by today, he came in and asked if we had any antique bottles? On his way out he recommended we change the name of the store because he thought it was a supermarket...(Many do I must admit!) I simply replied no that it is more like a flea market, a farmers market...a People's Market for the people. So...no we are not changing the name of the store.
(About 20 years ago my husband and I...actually I bought the People's Market sign at an auction for $10 and my husband said "what are you going to do with that?" I am sure I must have replied "I don't know"...well I didn't then....but now 20 years later it is hanging in our store. Everything has a purpose, a plan. That sign was meant to hang in the store. Therefore we are The People's Market of Lansing.

Photo workshop...Picture walk by Matthew Binkewicz...the first workshop!

Mathew Binkewicz (a local vendor, author, pastor and photographer) will lead a picture walk with a little bit of history of the Ludlowville area.
The walk has a nominal fee of $5 and includes a water and snack of Kathy's Granola from The Fingerlakes Granola Co. The walk will begin at 8:45 on August 20th (ending at approximately 11:00) at The People's Market, travel to the Ludlowville area. Matthew will offer tips on photographing your favorite spots. Please call the People's Market to reserve a spot on the Photo walk. We will e mail you an attachment with details (max. 10 participants).

We are continually trying to meet the needs of our customers and anticipate what they are looking for in a local store. We own an alpaca farm and raise free range egg-laying chickens. This has been one of our best selling items. Farm fresh eggs. People want FRESH...me too!
Well we added a new fresh item to the store today. Quinn's Irish Hill Farm...Tom and his wife own, grow, manage and prepare their chickens themselves. He raises his chickens on grass and uses organic techniques to bring you the freshest chicken broilers that you will ever taste. Each chicken is labeled with the weight and the slaughter date. You you know it's fresh! No hormones...no antibiotics...no growth enhancers...processed on their farm...so come on in and pick our your chicken for dinner! (Reasonably priced at $3.75/lb.)

A good day...

When one loses someone you have moments when classic things they would say remind you of them. Today is one of those days. My dad had an incredible attitude and would get up each day saying "it's a good day" he was thankful for everyday!
Well today was a good day at the The Market. I worked the store for my son Tyler who is our trusty employee and great at managing the People's Market in our absence (he is enjoying Hershey Park today!). He is usually here most days 11-3. Well I am a kindergarten teacher and not about "sales", selling, marketing etc...I am about 5 year olds! I am becoming more confident with the cash register because we had a bunch of people in today. Many of them looking and buying as well...but very friendly and talkative. People are nice and friendly and I had a great day meeting new people and sharing stories. We are fortunate to live in Lansing. It is a good place! People were very complimentary of the items we carry, the quality of the craftsmanship and the fair prices. It was a good day

We added some honey to the market today. It is so "local" the bee's may have polinated the flowers out front! Yes the bee's live on Pembroke Lane with their bee keeper... Marjorie Pryse.

The packaging comes in an adorable bear shaped plastic squeeze bottle, glass bottles and plastic squeeze bottles...so pick your packaging. A little something for everyone. More information to follow but we wanted to get this right out to the people who buy at The People's Market! Welcome Marjorie!

It was a beautiful sunny afternoon and the vendors gathered together to celebrate and commemorate the opening of the market. The chamber was there and the picture as well as an article will be featured in the August ChamberGram in the Ithaca Journal.
A picture will also be featured in the "Welcome" Magazine in Ithaca at the end of the summer. It will welcome people to town and let the new students and families in town know about our "gem" of a store!

One of the vendors wandered in this fine Saturday with a pile of wonderfully appealing newly made batch of Jam's. Strawberry which we all know and love but what do you think of Strawberry June berry Jam? June berry Jam? (We hear she had to wrestle a few squirrels and birds to get these scrumptious berries!) and last but not least Black and Black Jam (black berries and black raspberries)...are you hungry yet? Well stop in because this new batch is calling your name and has been added to the already appealing group of Mango, Papaya and Pineapple Jams already at The Market!

Well, it was a beautiful Saturday, the sun was shining and photographer (and vendor!) Matthew Binkewicz stopped in to drop off a few new items. He replaced some things with a few canvas' he had recently created of the old Ludlowville school in Ludlowville. Gorgeous! Just Gorgeous! They won't be around long so stop in and appreciate these incredible photographs in color AND sepia!
He has been dabbling and has come up with some beautiful small framed color photos of his work. They are perfect little pictures that could be used as a great small gift. Almost like a shadow box picture...and reasonably priced at $9.95! (Yes, you CAN afford nice pieces of art at The Market!)
While here he also replaced a few of his paperweights pictures with new photos as well.

Remember to stop in because you just never know what you'll find by the various vendors! Nice work Matthew!

NEW Hours at The People's Market!

The People's Market has been feeling their way in order to find out how to best meet the needs of the local customers and community in relation to our store hours. We have gotten a feel for the stores "traffic" and have changed our hours accordingly. In addition....Sunday we found was a day of "rest" and people have not been visiting the store on Sundays. Having had a recent death in the family really makes you stop and take stock in things...we need to set aside time for family and have two consecutive days so we can travel to see aging family.
We will be CLOSED SUNDAYS AND MONDAYS. (Unless it is tax season...then there will be someone here on Sunday afternoons...most likely the accountant :-) We will be open Tuesday through Friday 11-6 and Sat 10-5. Thank you for supporting our business.

***Actually you may be surprised to wander by on any given day and see the "OPEN" flag out front...it means the accountant in "in"!

It was such a beautiful day that Carol Engels decided to felt out front of the People's Market today...she was wet felting a few alpaca felted soap bars that will be sold in the store. It was a perfect day for it with only a little WIND! :-) Totally worth it though because along came a friend and it became a wonderful bit of downtime enjoying good company and forced time to get some projects done. The Market was down to one soap bar so it was time!!!!

It is a big weekend for Angel Tree Farm. We will be shearing both days this weekend from 8 am to 8pm most likely. This means that we will NOT be open on Sunday (May 22nd) and will be open most of the day Saturday May 21st. Sorry for the inconvenience but shearing day takes everyone on the farm and then some! A few vendors have signed up to help out so we will do what we can...give us a call and make sure someone is there if you plan a trip to the Market! (The Farm will be open for people who would like a peek at shearing day on an alpaca farm!)

Spring has sprung at the People's Market! We have a display of new items on the counter at the People's Market and are excited to have some new candles (soy and beeswax!), new jam's and we love the Ichibana vase that holds a wonderful display of spring...daffodils from the nearby demolition project! Yes, the old Chris and Green's restaurant on the corner is now gone. With the passing of time we must understand that everything has it's time~ like the daffodils in the vase and the old restaurant.

Well...we do believe it is now the "time" of the People's Market! Vendors and artisans are bringing in new "spring" items with color and life, so stop by to see the new pieces....

The People's Market is picking up traffic and is getting a real following since the Grand Opening. People are coming out of hibernation and are wandering out a bit. It has been wonderful and we are getting compliments all over the place about the store and the artisans' work. People are thrilled to have a place to come to buy local items. People are regularly stopping by with requests to be vendors and a sampling of their work. The Governing body of the People's Market (4-6 people) look the items over and make a decision. We are pleased to say that the market is getting quite full and is now looking for a variety of unique items to add to the mix.

Now that the Oen House is officially over I will continue posting the vendors at the Market as well as posting new vendors as they are added. We have many areas of "specialties" covered and are starting to limit new vendors so we will be watching for people with a new craft or art that we do not yet have.

We have a few jewelry people. Sue Henne and Jessica Stratton make some beautiful jewelry from stones, chains, glass and even broken dishes! They make beautiful chains with stones and beads with matching earrings. Perfect for a mother's Day gift! They are regularly bringing in new pieces so stop in to check out their latest creations!

Missy Modesitt hand blows glass beads and creates some beautiful bracelets and earrings. She also makes glass pendants that will amaze you. Take a look!

The day was a great success partly due to the fact that the vendors came out to demonstrate their crafts. We had clowing and face painting (Frank Towner), alpacas in the parking lot of the mall (Angel Tree), a painter (Robin Schuttenberg) and spinners galore! There was a needle felter... the people were taking it all in. It was so much fun to see people doing their "thing"! A fun day was had by all! There were people in the store all day and we appreciated their support!

Grand Opening a Huge Success!

The Grand Opening of The People's Market of Lansing was a huge success! The store was busy the entire day and people had nothing but wonderful things to say about it. They were so happy to have a store in Lansing and were thrilled to be able to buy from many of their friends and locals! We had a good number of sales and virtually all vendors had sales that day. We are out there and people plan to be back.
Thank you to all who donated prizes and volunteered time. Thank you to the vendors who came and circulated. People genuinely wanted to know who made what items and were very interested in the products. Melanie Towner was handing out Vemma samples, Kathy's Granola had samples and Stacie Kropp from "Straight from the Kitchen" had some delicious mini-cupcakes. People snacked and talked all day!
And most of all thank you to the people of Lansing for supporting the artisans at the People's Market! Pictures to follow! :-)

The Kids Corner

Follow the little feet to the kids corner! In the kids corner you will find adorable children's fruit hats, stuffed alpaca teddy bears, bunnies and polar bears (Peru). In the kids corner you will find a little antique desk filled with toys for the little one's to play with while the big people shop! The corner also has a bowl full of finger puppets (Peru) that people big and small like to look through for hours of fun. They are affordable and hand knit on the streets of Peru (not local!) and are so meticulous and detailed you will be amazed. Check out the kids corner!

The Market now features sheep milk soap from Trinity Farms' very own sheep!
Trinity Farms also supplies the market with hand spun yarn from their Icelandic sheep. It is just gorgeous and you will love it's hand spun feel and look. Come to the fiber room and check it out. You will want become a knitter if you are not one already!

The People at the People's Market of Lansing have been hard at work...in the store and the office!

Jay is working away night and day at his job, the farm... as well as Engels Accounting! He has been taking on new tax clients, working on audits as well as his present clients material they have brought in. While doing this he has been meeting new people who wander in the check out the new store! Come wander in and try out his comfy chairs and ask away... you know, those tax questions that have been heavy on your mind!

Engels Accounting is a one man show and you are sure to get personal attention. Which is what we all want right? And when it come to your taxes what we don't want...is the IRS' attention. Well then, Jay is your man. Come in and see him! (There is a back door entrance to Engels Accounting or you can wander through the store to the inside entrance)

Food at the Market!

What would a store be without a little food? The Market recently made arrangements with Kathy Maxson to supply us with her famous "granola" from The Finger Lakes Granola Company. The locals rave about it and I now know why! The granola is gluten free and soft and chewy and wonderful. She will be supplying us with fresh granola for the front counter regularly. Can't wait for the granola that is "lovingly made to feed your soul"...as the package says...and it does! My family will be another regular customer of this as well!

The People's Market is carrying Verve/ Vemma. We are being supplied by Frank and Melanie Towner of Lansing (also vendors in other areas in the shop!)..... We are also customers of this item as well...of course! This nutritional "insanely healthy energy" drink is nice and cold and in the mini-fridge on the counter at the Market. The drink is full of all those nutrients we need in a day but just don't have the time to prepare in our meals. They also have available insanely healthy energy shots and concentrated dietary supplements. Check them out at www.crossroad.vemma.com

Taste on Tap is a local company out of Cortland NY. They make marinades that can be mixed with a can of beer in the summer...or used as a rub on your fresh meats. The beer makes the meat incredibly moist and tender. Kathy Thomas of Taste on Tap also provides the Market with "Big Kids Cocoa"...this item is not to be overlooked by the chocolate lovers out there! This Hot Chocolate is made with DARK chocolate...and like no other you have ever had!

Cheryl Germain is a well known fiber artist in the area with a real talent. She has felted fiber jewelry, felted scarves and bracelets...lots of unique one of a kind wearable felt items!

Sarah Thomson is a local photographer with an incredible eye. She has some of her framed photos as well as matted prints and pictures in different sizes. She has gift cards and note card sets as well. There are some beautiful local shots of familiar places, animals and nature shots at reasonable prices. Stop by and take a look through her eyes!
Sarah also makes some beautiful eclectic hanging pot chimes for the front porch...which will be on mine porch soon I have no doubt!

Debbie Volbrecht and Margaret Moseley are teamed up and present a united team for their business "Lacey". They specialize in cross stitch pictures, jewelry boxes and rag lights. I am a big client of the the rag lights which can be all season and are wonderful in my old country style farm house!

Brenda Halton is a local potter with real talent. She enjoys her time working at her wheel and has made some beautiful pieces for the People's Market...her pottery is a favorite and very reasonably priced.

Alpaca hats hand knit, felted and embellished by Ellie Hunter, partner at Angel Tree Farm Alpacas. Ellie enjoys knitting and uses the feathers from around the farm (as well as antique pins) to decorate her unique hats . They are a favorite at the Ithaca Farmer's Market in Dec.!

Trisha Firth of "Creative Touch" has a real gift with these gorgeous one of a kind chopping boards. Each is crafted with hand painted pedastals and sure to be loved by a "big cheese" that you know!

These fine bags are handmade by Jane Hunter. She has a real talent in working with textiles. The bags are hand stitched, lined and ready to tote your important belongings around! She also makes the handy Purposeful Pouches for cell phones,

i pods...and make great presentation for gift cards and little trinkets! She enjoys working with specialty fabrics and good old fashioned ties! The zebra print has an old tie of my dads! They are one of a kind!

Open and running...

The People's Market is open and running on Mon, Wed, Fri. and Sat. from 11-6pm and on Sundays from 12-5. Tyler Engels is running it during the days with a tag team coming in at 2 or 3 to finish up the day. At this point it is Jay, Carol (myself) or Ashley Engels. We have had a few vendors beginning to work and it has gone well. New potential vendors and artisans are coming in on a regular basis. The shelves are filling up and we are getting a nice variety of handmade items in at the market. We have had sales of pottery, alpaca stuffed animals, socks, beer marinades, jewelry, antiques, yarn and cards. The word is getting out there. We have advertised in The shopper, the TCAT and the Lansing Star did a nice article on the new "People's Market" in Lansing. We are continuing to advertise and plan a Grand Opening as well as joining the Chamber of Commerce.

Jay's accounting business is getting settled in and is officially set up for business as we move and organize his clients/files to the new location. People have been asking about both businesses and the vendors as well. An artisan was there just the other day (working for a few hours) and spoke to people who knew people who were familiar with her work. There is networking going on and people are interested! we are just adding fresh "Kathy's Granola" from the Finger Lakes Granola Company on our very own...Van Ostrand Rd. Lansing New York!

If we support each other, buy from each other and stick together we will do great things! Lansing is a great place to live and grow a business...people will see! Stay tuned. I will be adding a running list of vendors and new artisans regularly now.

Please forgive our lax updates to the blog. We have been having a great time opening the People's Market of Lansing but on February 14th we lost our best friend, father, husband, confidante and companion... Mal. Mal was an integral part of the family. He was the investor, the thinker, the one always thinking about ways to come up with something new. He loved a challenge and breaking out on a new adveture. He was a business man, a banker, a charles chip franchize owner, a contractor, an architect, a farmer, a realtor and most importantly a man who never gave up. He was always thinking of ways to make a buck but was in it moslty for the excitement and the adventure. He enjoyed and was thankful for everyday of his life...and lived it that way. Mal, Dad, G-Dad... was very excited for us with the People's Market and was able to get there once before the opening. He was so excited about the potential it offered. This is what makes our opening and beginning of a new business...a new adventure such a bitter sweet one. He will be missed but he is in all that we do. Mal's attitude was "you get up...you go on... that's life" and we will do our best in this venture with that attitude. We have great hopes for the People's Market of Lansing and know that with the fine artisans and vendors that we are aquiring regularly it will be a great one!

Yes... the People's Market of Lansing is officially open as of tomorrow (Feb. 7th!). We are planning a quiet opening as we finish up the store, enroll vendors and display crafts and artisans' pieces. With Valentine's coming (and April 15th!) and the mounting interest in what is going on in the last vacant spot in the Lansing plaza store we figured we would open quietly...iron out the wrinkles and then open with a BANG! We'll have snacks, special events and some of the local artisans in attendance! Watch for a date! So...stop on by and keep an eye on the blog as we open our doors. We have a list of vendors that are continuing to bring their stock to display so come by and see what's happening and what all the talk is about!

Ready to go from old farm store to new store...

We are counting down the final few days before we open. Putting things in place...moving items around, pricing and getting our final ducks in a row...if you are curious...keep visiting the blog..if you are a vendor contact us for a time to meet at the market and display your items. We will be there this morning (call for an exact time!) and we will be around tomorrow meeting people at the Market...so give us a call. Many are bringing a few items until they have an opportunity to build up their inventory. Most vendors are feeling the same thing...they sold a lot of items over the holidays and put away what was left in bins...thinking this new market would take some time. If you do not know us you will find we are "go getters" and hard workers. We have gotten the store together quickly so don't feel bad about bringing "just a little"...that is what makes "alot" :-)
I am putting the list of vendors into Dan Veaner by Monday so give me a call if you truly are interested. It is beginning to fill up and we are getting a nice mix of pieces! Stay tuned!

Interview with The Lansing Star

Our interview with Dan Veaner of the Lansing Star went well and we were able to share our vision for the People's Market with him. He was interested and quite impressed with the progress of the place. Funny he wondered how we did it with our jobs, Engels Accounting, Angel Tree Farm Alpacas and all that we have on our plate. ..I had to laugh to myself as I said that we don't sleep! (Kinda funny seeing as I am "posting" at 1:21 am!)
Seriously though, we are excited and invested in making this business a success for: ourselves, the vendors/artisans, Engels Accounting, Angel Tree and mostly for the town of Lansing and the outlying areas. We have faith that this is going to be a great business for all of us. We are quite literally "stepping out in Faith...and a little blood, sweat and tears as well!
We have been fortunate to have the support of friends and family to help make it thus far....and a few borrowed antiques and cupboards from my dad's collections :-) We consider ourselves blessed.

Dan laughed when I said we don't sleep but was interested in what we were thinking for the People's Market of Lansing. We believe in the local talent and want to get it out there for the people. He asked for a list of vendors/artisans that will be displaying their work. If this is you...please get us your forms and sign on so that we can share your name and work with him.

One step closer!

Monday was an exciting night at The People's Market of Lansing...the potential vendors began to wander in and we casually greeted people as they wandered around viewing the store.
We had an opportunity to meet new people and come together to formulate our vision. The repeating message was flexibility and team work. If we work together we can create a pretty appealing place for people to shop for locally handmade gift items, alpaca wear and should you need it, a little accounting advice! :-)
